Black, white and red

The Diva challenge this week (#272) is to make a tile using black, white and red.  Laura had accidentally picked up her red Micron, instead of the black one, and so she finished her tile with these colours. And she turned her 'mistake' into a challenge - remember no mistakes in zentangle ! It was a nice challenge for me. I make rarely a couloured tile, but now for this challenge is was easy because you only had to use red as an extra colour.  And I payed special attention to my shading here. Here are the patterns I used: Tripoli, Printemps, Sandswirl, Meer, Pea-Nuckle, Pozer, Antidots, Tipple.

zentangled shoes

Yes, I finally dit it ! I tangled some summer shoes for my youngest daughter.  In fact, it were my shoes but she grows up and up and has already the same foot size.  So I told her she could have the shoes, and that I would tangle them, to make them more hip for a teenager.  I hope they last a summer :)

Up to the Skye

This week the "I am the Diva Challenge" #270 is to make a tile using the new pattern (by Margaret Bremner) Skye.  I started a zentangle already in my sketch book last week, but did not finish it.  So, a good opportunity to finish it now.  The pattern gives lots of possibilities and is very nice to shade. I also started to make a tile with the other new pattern that was posted last week: Ellish.  Also a very nice and fluent pattern.  This was last weeks Diva Challenge, but I post it here now.

All about shading

Since a few weeks, I try to improve my shading skills.  I already saw the very beautiful tiles of Eni Oken in the facebook group Square One: Purely Zentangle.  And so I discovered she had a facebook group of her own “Shading Zentangle" all about shading zentangles and a website as well ‘The creative world of Eni Oken http://www.enioken.com/.  I decided to buy one of her books '3D Tangle: Shading Fearlessly' to really learn more about shading, and I must say... it already helped me a lot !

Here you can already see some of my improved examples, with much more contrast in it using Eni Oken's shadowing techniques.

Here I used one of Ben Kwok's templates (nr 006 squirrel) that he publishes weekly on the Ornation Creation facebook group.

Challenges Square One April

I totally forgot to post the challenges and my tiles made in April.  We were so bussy with the (second) house we rent and finaly found a nice young couple who wants to live there.  And we also had to look for a new school for our younghest next year, so my mind was less focussed on zentangle...

So here they are:

week one: Morse
I used Morse whith Phicops in my tile.

week two: Cruze
A new patterns to me, and not an easy one ! I combined it with Jonqal in some stairs. Also Diva Dance and Cyme is in this tile.

week three: Shnek
Shnek made me think of the violin-sign, just as we had a concert with our choral.  We performed some Bach cantates, and I enjoyed it very much.

week four: Snail
Oh, this is a nice one.  It made me make this spriral.

Spring

Spring is the Diva Challenge of this week (#264), so I tried to put a lot of flowers in my tile: Henna Drum, Zinger, Fassett, Diva Dance.  And I used a sort of a spiral or a rope in the middle with Snail in it.  In dutch the word 'spring' means in fact 'to jump', that's were the rope comes up.

And so far... no realy spring weather in Belgium up till now; it's  cold and rainy almost every day.

Boy with a dog

During Easter holliday's we went to 's Hertogenbosch (Netherlands) to visit the exposition of Jheronimus Bosch.  As we were there, we also visited the St. Jan Cathedral, and got a tour on top of it.  From above, you can see the many sculptures that are on the bows above, to support the Cathedral.  There are about 100 sculptures and they are all very beautiful, and all different.  Many of them are probably designed by J. Bosch also.

I was working on a zentangle of such a sculpture in my sketchbook when I saw the Diva Challenge of this week (#262) , to use the pattern Fassett.  It's such a nice pattern, and I used it in the sleaves of the boy. I put it next to Five which I used in the rest of the boy' s shirt.
